KayElle, Melissa, and Alicia, rocking our cute homecoming looks! Let's go BIG BLUE!
It's homecoming season! We thought we'd share a cute look-book for the homecoming season. Each of us has a personal relationship with one of Nashville's most amazing educational institutions, Tennessee State University. While we were shooting this impromptu lookbook, we learned so much about each other. Below, you'll get our personal Tennessee State University stories and how we will celebrate this wonderful time. Let's get started!
Tennessee State University is an amazing Historically Black College (HBCU) located in Nashville, TN. An HBCU is defined as any, " . . . institutions of higher education in the United States that were established before 1964 with the intention of serving the black community. Most were created in the aftermath of the American Civil War and are located in the former slave states, although a few notable exceptions exist. " Currently, there are 107 HBCU's in the country, and TSU is one of them. We boast alumni such as Oprah Winfrey, Olympic star - Wilma Rudolph, and THE BLOGGER GIRLS!

Our Pep Rally Looks . . . keeping it cute, fun, and classy!
During my freshman year, I was in the Aristocrat of Bands; I played the clarinet. I was in numerous groups and clubs including Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity, Peer Counselors, The Meter (newspaper), and concluded my senior year by being voted Miss Social Work Club. I even got to ride in the annual parade after years of witnessing it as a spectator - it was most certainly a fun ride, literally and figuratively - pun intended lol (Yes, I'm a dork, just go with it)
Although I chose not to become a social worker upon graduating, I definitely feel like the degree I earned and the people I met at TSU prepared me for working in the fashion world. TSU taught me how to make connections, enhance relationships, and communicate with a diverse community of people daily. So basically, "I'm so glad {doo doo doo doo} I went to TSU!"

There's always time for HAPPY HOUR! Our happy hour looks are super chic!
FROM KayElle: Although I only went to TSU for 6 weeks when I considered getting my Masters of Public Health (I did get my Bachelor of Science is from MTSU - Go Blue Raiders), I have gone to countless TSU Homecoming festivities. It's sort of a Nashville tradition amongst the African American community. My family and friend always plan to attend, at minimum, the parade that is held on Saturday morning before the game.
Growing up, I would enjoy the parade with my friends before going to the battle of the bands, tailgates and then, the big game! Even though I am not an alumnus of the Tennessee State University, I will say I do have some Tiger pride inside! Go TIGERS!!!

Rocking our ALL BLACK EVERYTHING for the Black Luxe Party!
FROM MELISSA: I came all the way from Massachusetts to attend Tennessee State University. After watching YEARS of the tv show, 'A Different World', I knew I was gonna attend an HBCU. But I didn't even know TENNESSEE had a black college. I remember the day I did the college tour, the people were so nice, the campus was so big and regal, and the students looked like they were having FUN! I knew I had to go to this school.
I'll never, ever, regret my time at TSU. I earned my Bachelor's in English Literature, was a campus tour guide, held office in the student NAACP, and even earned a scholarship for choral music (random, I know!). It helped me grow-up, gave me a foundation on education and determination, and gave me pride in being an educated woman. I love my Alma Mater and I'll always be a TSU TIGER! Go Big BLUE!
We can't wait to celebrate with everyone! Click here to check out the official TSU Homecoming event guide. If you see us out and about, come up and say 'Hi!' we would love to take a selfie with you! The Blogger Girls will be at the Pep Rally on Friday, the Black Lux Party at The Complex, and the tailgate parties. Stay safe, have fun!

Love it ladies!
